Traditional Thai Massage Certification Program

19-28 June 2010

Immerse yourself in the ancient healing techniques of Thailand. Take a break, heal yourself and learn new ways to heal others. Join us at Hotel Breza in Borovetz, Bulgaria, for this 10-day retreat and complete our Thai Basic Certification Program on the skirts of the highest mountain on the Balkan peninsula.

During the winter, Borovetz is a popular ski resort; in summer, it is a hiker's dream. The retreat will be in Hotel Breza, cozy and family-friendly. Feel free to bring along yours. They can commune with nature while you spend the day giving and receiving Thai massage...that way everyone is happy!

The Course

Traditional Thai Massage, also known as Thai Massage, Thai Yoga Massage, Ayurvedic Bodywork or Nuad Bo-Rarn is one of the world's oldest healing modalities. It is a beautifully structured form of massage, which uses a combination of Pranayana breathing techniques, slow rhythmic compressions on the muscles, gentle rocking, deep flowing passive yoga stretches and acupressure work on energetic meridians to achieve a unique and comprehensive holistic bodywork. The goal of Thai bodywork is to open and create space within the body, balancing it on all levels and allowing it the freedom to move and work harmoniously. Thai is not a mechanical technique. Instead it is energy work done in a meditative state, and the lush surroundings of this retreat are ideal to facilitate the learning process.

Along with influencing your energetic side, Thai Massage works deep on your physical body. Starting at your feet and progressing up to your head, every part of you will be moved, loosened and stretched. Thai Massage combines many bodywork techniques usually found isolated in the west, including Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release Techniques, Manual Therapy, Reflexology, Sports Massage and others. This combination of energetic and physical bodywork makes Thai Massage unique, and so are its effects.

This retreat will include our first three levels for a total of 80 hours of training:

1. The first segment- Level I (24 CE hours) explores the history, development and foundations of Thai Massage as a healing art and provides students with the training to perform a Traditional Thai Massage in the front position. 19-21 June 2010

2. The second part of the course- Level II (24 CE hours) teaches students the foundations of performing Traditional Thai Massage in the Sitting, Side-Lying and Back positions. 22-24 June 2010

3. The third segment- Level III (32 CE hours) reviews and expands on the material from the first two segments, fine tuning the students' knowledge, hands-on experience, quality of touch and transitions, introducing Thai Massage on the Table, 20 hours of Thai healing protocols to treat chronic pain. 25-28 June 2010

Emphasis throughout the courses is placed on proper body mechanics, clear explanations and demonstrations of every step and the healing benefits, indications and contraindications associated with the different yoga positions. Course massage workbooks are provided to all students and include explanations, step-by-step instructions and ample photos to present the material clearly.

This class is for everyone who wants to refine him/herself to get a new qualification, to learn new massage techniques, to gain knowledge of the Eastern culture and philosophy. The course is suitable not only for massage therapists, but all bodyworkers (yoga instructors, personal trainers etc.)  who are interested in learning how they could use and apply Thai massage techniques and knowledge in their own practice. In Thailand, massage is traditionally done within families as a way of caring for one another at home. This is a great tradition...this class is also perfect for those who want to start this tradition in their own families.
